Mike Gahagan After John Bonewitz

John Bonewitz worked in the Womelsdorf Township in Berks County from about 1779 to 1809 and is concidered one of the best early American gunsmiths.Leonard Reedy and Andrew Fighthorn were two of his apprentices and became great very well known established gunsmiths also.

This rifle has a scraped stock, custom lock, hand built set triggers and all of the hardware  was shop built except for the butt plate and trigger guard. The stock has been given a slight patina but the  steel parts has not except for a light grey color.

  1. Please note this correction- John Bonewitz was from the town of Womelsdorf (not township). Womelsdorf is located in Heidelberg Township, Berks County, Penna.
