Chris L. Altland, 54, passed away at the Hershey Medical Penn State Cancer Institute on Monday, May 8. He was the beloved husband of 30 years to ZoeAnn (Strayer) Altland.
Mr. Altland was born in York on November 28, 1962 and was the son of the late Gary Cleason and Donna Rae (Fidler) Altland and was the brother of the late Brian Steven Altland.
Chris was a graduate of York Co. Vo-Tech. He was the proud owner of Altland's Gunsmithing/ York Co. Firelocks. He previously worked for over 19 years as a maintenance machinist for OSRAM Sylvania and for the 16 years prior to that, for various industrial companies in York. Chris had a passion and love for the outdoors and enjoyed being with his family. Hobbies included hunting, shooting, building muzzleloader pistols, street rods and enjoyed watching drag racing. He was an active member of York Riflemen, Twin Oaks Hunting Club, Tomahawks Black Powder Club, 18th Century Artisans, Contemporary Longrifle Assoc., National Muzzleloader Rifle Assoc., the NRA, and the National Street Rod Assoc. He loved his GSP dog, Gunnar, and his four cats.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Christopher Michael Altland; brother, Craig Altland and his wife, Sherri; and his sister, Laurie Clevenger and her husband, Jacob. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Britny Keeny and her husband, Luke, Ashly Altland, Chelsea Lebo and her husband, Shaun, Tly Schildt, Cassidy Schildt and Asyck Schildt; and great nieces and nephews, Jackson, Rylee, Jace, Paxton, and Nova.
A funeral service to honor Chris' life was held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 19 at Immanuel Evangelical Free Church, 1140 Witmer Rd., York, PA 17406, with Pastor Kevin Frain officiating.
Eternal rest grant unto Chris, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
