American Revoluntionary War Period American Made Musket, ca 1760's-1770's

This musket is an octagonal to round, pin-fastened, 46" smoothbore, .78 caliber, American -made barrel with a bottom-mounted bayonet lug and an iron front sight: the top of the breech has an "N/35" American unit marking. It is a finely carved and molded, New England form Roman-Nose Applewood (?) fullstock with raised carving around the lock mortise, a raised beavertail apron at the barrel-tang and a lobe at the ramrod entry. The sheet brass furniture is colonial manufactured. The buttplate with a long steeped tang is American-made sheet-brass barrel-form ramrod pipes and a raised Charlesville type sideplate signed a "W. Perkins" owner's name. The trigger-guard has a flat flared forward finial and no provision for a sling swivel. The signed, American-made lock has rounded surfaces, a bridled powder-pan and a gooseneck hammer: the face with a worn "SHEPPARD" signature.  The lock with all of its components, matching surfaces is in mechanically functional order. The overall length is 62" and this musket has its original iron ramrod.
