ELIZABETH ASHLEE KNIFE FOR JEREMIAH “JAKE” BROWNING ~ NOVEMBER 7, 2024 AD

As part of a grandfather’s continuing tradition to his grandson, Jeremiah David Browning - this is the 15th handmade knife made by friends for his birthday. This year’s outstanding knife was made by talented knife maker, Elizabeth Ashlee, of Mount Vernon, KY. Jeremiah received this knife for his 24th birthday, November 7, 2024.

Elizabeth created a handsome knife with a blade hand forged from 1084 steel, with a deer leg bone handle, and a mild steel end cap with bolster. Continuing in the tradition since the first knife was made by Ian Pratt in 2010, two hearts are stamped into the blade, engraved in the blade cap is Jeremiah’s birthday – Nov. 7,

And HDW and JDB is engraved as well. Elizabeth's touch mark is also stamped in the blade.

The handsome sheath was made by Shelly Gier.

This is the 15th knife made for the continuing tradition from a grandfather to a fine grandson. Last year's knife – 2023 was made by Simeon England; 2022 knife was made by Max Soaper; 2021 knife was made by Josh Wrightsman; 2020 by Charlie Wallingford; 2019 knife was made by Todd Butler; 2018 knife was made Kyle Willyard; 2017 by Steve Auvenshine; the 2016 knife was made by Frank House; 2015 by Doug Delsemme; 2014 by Todd Daggett; 2013 - Daniel Casey; 2012- Joe Seabolt; 2011- Glen Mock; and the first, made in 2010 by Ian Pratt.

CLF 2022 Auction: Neck Knife and Quilled Sheath by Elizabeth Ashlee and Linda Pritchard

Few frontier collector items carry quite the visual appeal of a traditional tribal neck knife and quilled sheath. This year’s CLF Live Fundraising Auction will fortunately offer a stunning example by artists Elizabeth Ashlee and Linda Pritchard.

Ashlee’s knife, measuring 6 1/2 inches long, is hand forged from a vintage hay rake tine. It’s a strong but graceful blade paired with an antler handle. Fitted with a poured pewter bolster and coin silver end cap, this is a fine collector’s-grade knife but will also stand up to the job of heavy field work.

Ashlee’s knife is paired with an intricately-decorated quilled neck sheath by Linda Pritchard. Crafted from brain-tanned leather, this Great Lakes-inspired tribal sheath is adorned with dyed porcupine quills, hand-rolled tin cones, and dyed tufts of deer tail hair. Overall, the sheath measures 7 ½” in length.
