New Work by Ken Gahagan for 18th Century Artisan Show

A hound dog and a horse. Both images were originally found on native items. A drinking ladle and a staff.

These are all copies of originals. The first is a Dutch trade Figural piece the original being found at a Susquehannock site in PA.

A copy of a bone handled one found at Lake George.

The fourth are Dutch carved handled copies of the originals.

These are all inspired by sailor made items. There handle materials are bone or oak. Most imagery is from scrimshawed nautical items or powder horns. The wooden ones have turks head knot on handles to prevent slippage when working on the ships.

Copy and photography supplied by Ken Gahagan.
