This is a very decorative rifle in the Armstrong style signed on a brass plate on the barrel L Burwell. A good quality flintlock with the fly in the tumbler, double set triggers, 44 inch x three/forths inch x 45 cal. rifled barrel in excellent condition. Superb relief carving, fore stock molding, pierced toe plate, brass ringed silver cheek piece inlay with engraved eagle, engraved brass mounts, nicely engraved silver inlays on a wonderful piece of curly maple.
"I can tell you it was likely made prior to 1976 when I pretty-much quit building rifles. I just happened on the CLA site today and was completely amazed that it showed up there. I have no record of who I sold it to and would be interested in who buys it for curiosity-sake. I never kept records of the 25-30 or so rifles I made in the 1967-1976 time frame when I basically stopped building. They were always signed on the top barrel flat and this must be one of the last ones because the barrel was slightly milled out on a Bridgeport milling machine so I could inlay a thin, rounded-end piece of brass for my name. I have belonged to the NMLRA since 1967, but let my membership lapse in the CLA a couple years ago." LB
