Iron Mounted .40 Smooth Rifle by Bruce Everhart and Scott Staten

This gun started with a conversation between my uncle Bruce and me that lasted over a year. I was looking for a light gun for round ball as well as small shot. A gun for feeding ones self in the woods.

We started with a red maple blank and a Rice 44“ .40 A weight smooth bore. Add a Chambers Colonial Virginia lock and we almost had a gun. Bruce did the layout work and hand forged the iron furniture. I did most of the inletting and Bruce did the shaping, carving, engraving and finish work.

  1. I like it. I think the execution was very successful. An interesting choice in gauge

  2. Beautiful, love many aspects especially the comb extending the flats on the buttplate. Would love a closeup of the cheekpiece carving.
