A "restocked" American gun ca.1700 in the style
of James II & William III muskets.
The intention was to use existing European parts, and come up with a gun which could have been re created on these shores, possibly in Virginia. Jud said this is the earliest piece he has made. Indeed, the butt design goes back to the mid 1600's.
The stock is maple, the 48" .58 cal barrel was made by Bill Large in the 1970's. The Rifle Shoppe flintlock was assembled from castings from an antique William III lock. Jud hand made the butt plate, iron Scottish trigger guard, trigger, trigger plate, side plate, and pipes. The wrist oval image was taken from an early English musket.
An American shoulder bag of same period as the Brennan musket is currently being made by James Rogers, and will be on display at this years CLA show. Both items will be featured at Mr. Rogers table.
