Woman's Wrap Skirt by James Blake

This wrap skirt is not a copy of one original piece but incorporates design elements from various skirts and matchcoats. The ribbon work and bead work was applied to the stroud cloth (a type of trade wool) I produce as well. The glass beads are a form of imitation (glass) wampum that was available through the fur trade. We see these types of beads show up predominately in the third quarter of the 18th century, applied to ribbon work, knife cases, or even fully beaded pouch panels these beads were used in a wide range of objects, and add a nice touch to this Woman's Wrap Skirt.

Copy and photos supplied by James Blake.

  1. James,
As always, that is a beautiful piece of work? What are the length and width of the piece?
    Thank you
