I just finished up my rendition of the horn below. It is about 12 ½” around the outside curve. The base is Walnut about 2 ¼”, it is held in by the same 5 steel pins that horn the horn band on. The two part tip, White tail antler, is about 2 ¼”X ¾”. The collar and tip are pinned together with 3 steel pins and in turn it is pinned to the horn, also with 3 pins.
This horn is from the William Ivy book "North Carolina Schools of Longrifles 1765-1865". The horn is a classic North Carolina horn with only an applied horn ring at the plug. The bone tip is an elongated "bugle" type seem throughout the piedmont.
