Pocahontas County West Virginia Historical Society

I’m out on the road and spent the last two days in Huntersville, West Virginia. I participated in their annual “traditions day”.  My ancestors were early settlers there so they invited me to set up a table and demonstrate some shooting and what not. While I was there I visited some sites way off the beaten track where my ancestors built cabins in the 1750’s and 1770’s.

Anyway, I stopped in Marlinton at a wonderful little museum there and took some photos of some artifacts. One thing thing that really stood out to me was that most of the items there were from the actual area, which always seem to be rarely the case for museums to me.I thought you might enjoy some of the civil war era items there. I wish I could’ve gotten better photos but everything was under old glass. I was able to handle the old shot pouch and horn. The large Swiss music player was wound up and played the most haunting melody I’ve ever heard. I’ll send you a little video and photos from the event on Saturday if you’re interested.
