Stylistically this rifle could have been made in middle SC or middle Georgia. There were several SC gunsmiths named Elliott. The most intriguing possibility is that the 1850 census lists a gunsmith named Elliott working in Augusta, Georgia, who was a “slave owned by George Summers.”
