This set was made by Hacker Martin for his friend Leonard Meadows of West Virginia. It was made in about circa 1955. This set is unique in that Hacker made the powder horn, the pouch and pistol for Leonard. The Horn reads "Steale not this Horne for fear of Shame, for on it stands the owners name Leonard + A + Meadows - Presented bye his Friend Hacker Martin - Now Some Folks Like to Hunt The Deer and Some May Live The Fawn, But I Want A Dear To Love Me Hear and Mourn Me When I'm Gone - I Powder With My Brother Ball Hero Like Do Conquer All". The pistol is stocked in highly figured birdseye maple with a handmade lock and all hardware. There is silver inlays with the entire top flat of the barrel engraved, " HACKER MARTIN made for L A Meadows". It is 38 cal and overall length is 16 3/8 long. The pouch has two interior pockets and is very finely constructed.

I met Leonard Meadows at his shop in Shady Spring WV a few months before his death. He was one of the finest long rifle builders of time.
