This is the Fleeger style rifle that Jud made for me. He used my silver-mounted Fleeger rifle as the theme. That rifle was not carved, and there are no known relief-carved rifles by Fleeger. So, the inspiration for the carving came from a W. Cooper (Pittsburgh maker) rifle that I used to own. To me the rifle represents what Fleeger might have done if he had produced relief-carved guns.
Jud and I shared the vision of what this gun should look like, but before receiving it, I never imagined how good it would be. Everybody who has seen and handled it has been blown away by it. It is a gun that must be handled to be fully experienced. The different textures, especially the 3-dimensionality of the engraving, must be felt, and the sensations stay with you after you put the gun down. It is really interesting - a tactile as well as a visual experience.
