Scottish Style Dirk by John Miller

I made this one using a commercial blade that I modified and carved the handle out of an old hard maple table leg stained dark with aqua fortis.   The crown inlay is iron as are the butt cap and handle pins.  The sheath is leather dyed black with iron and vinegar.  The belt loop is finger woven dyed jute.

Wiley Higgens Fowler

Thanks to the sharp eye of Kenneth Orr, Matt Verdery and I were able to acquire the only known fowler made by Georgia’s great gunsmith Wiley G. Higgins. I would date it around 1835. Like most of Higgins’ work, it is unsigned, but for those who have studied his guns, there is no question but that he made this little gem. The condition is virtually “as new”.

New York Map Horn by Kevin Hart

 

14 1/4 inches from tip of finial to stopper along the outside curve.

Butt Plug is 2 3/4 inches and made of Myrtle from Southern Oregon.

The engrailed throat is 4 1/2 inch octagonal with two large and three small weddings bands.
