Mark Thomas
A rifle inspired by the rifle of the 1780's period by Alexander Walker, of Augusta Co. VA. I've carved the burled sugar maple stock a bit more than the original gun. The exposed ramrod channel due to wear of the forearm of the 54 cal. rifle gives a nice antique intrigue. Scraped and burnished finish lends the feel of age to this unique piece of art. The burled wood shows off a few bark inclusions that help in giving this rifle such a nice look. This maple is so hard that after burnishing it shined like a new penny without any linseed oil. M.T.
