As part of
a grandfather’s continuing tradition to his grandson, Jeremiah David Browning -
this is the fifth handmade knife made by friends for his birthday. This year’s outstanding
knife is by noted knife maker, Todd Daggett of Morris, Illinois. “Jake” received this knife on his 14th
birthday, November 7, 2014 from his grandfather, H. David Wright.
This year Todd
created a stunning knife which is sometimes referred to as a Memory Knife. The hand-forged drop point blade is
inset into a rounded walnut handle which is creatively adorned with a design of
repetitive hearts of poured pewter inlaid into the wood. The two
larger hearts are engraved with the initials “JDB” on one side, backed with “HDW” on the other. Two hearts has become an artistic tradition among the
artists making Jake’s knives and Todd creatively adapted it to this knife. An
iron pommel cap with a peened tang engraved “11.7.14” states the date of
Jeremiah’s birthday.
This is the
fifth knife made in the continuing tradition from a grandfather to a fine
grandson. Last year’s 2013 knife was made by Daniel Casey, the 2012 knife was
made by Joe Seabolt, 2011 by Glen Mock, and the 2009 knife was made by Ian
Pratt.
What a better
gift than a “Memory Knife”. It
will bring fond memories of a young man’s special time growing up. Thanks to all five artists for making
my grandson’s gifts extra special.

Todd's creations have so much character, they almost seem mystical. Well done, Brother!
