Contemporary Makers Portraits: Jerry Eitnier

Jerry Eitnier is a charter member of the CLA and has been a member of the NMLRA since 1973. He has been building longrifles since 1987. Having been influenced by Hershel House his work and finishes, he builds in the Woodbury School. Eitnier states that he "sometimes works on the far side of this school, some of my work is a little different."

"I build my guns to be safe and to be used. The more you use them the better they look! My blacksmith work is mostly for my iron mounted guns. Some knives and other things come out of my shop.

After heart bypass and a fight with cancer I do not take many orders. Most of the time I do have a few things for sale."

This is the rifle that Jerry is holding in the photograph. More photos of this gun can be seen here.

  1. Nice feature on a nice guy. I have always found something very appealing about Jerry's rifles. It fun to see how he lets his creative side run with each project but sill ends up with something that looks like an old funky well used southern rifle. He has a knack for combining and incorporating some of those little features and quirks that draw many of us to the old iron mounted southern rifes in the first place.
