Lock, Stock, and Barrel Pistol Class, 2.0 with Jack Brooks

Dear Friends and Students,

I want to announce a second flintlock pistol class which will start in January 2021.  The first section which started last year, January 2020, is still meeting, though we missed two months because of covid19.   I have had several requests to start another class. So I will call it

"Lock, Stock, and Barrel Pistol Class 2.0".  At this time I have 3 openings.  The class is limited to 6 students due to the size of my classroom.

The class will be held one day a month and be 8 hours long.  Breakfast and lunch will be provided by my wonderful wife. The cost will be $250 per day.   A deposit of $50 will be required to hold a position for you.  The deposit will be applied to the first class day tuition.

This class will cover all aspects of making an authentic flintlock Kentucky pistol except making the barrel and lock. Students will make a copy of an Abraham Schweitzer pistol, circa 1790, which is a classic American pistol.  Starting with a block of curly maple, you will learn to hand inlet a 50 caliber octagon barrel.   We will use a Siler pistol size flintlock. You will learn to hand make the brass mounts and sterling silver inlays including sand casting your own brass trigger guard.  The Schweitzer pistol has decorative relief carving around the barrel tang and simple engraved silver inlays which we will learn to do. Wood finishing plus traditional, period barrel bluing will be taught.

I have attached some pictures; the antique Schweitzer pistol, some students at work, making a sand mold for casting a trigger guard, a pistol in progress.

If you would like to join this new class, please send a $50 deposit to:
