This type of box is generally referred to as a Bible box, however at 28" by 16" by 10" this one seems a little large. Made of pine, it has wonderful carvings on the front and is very early, most likely 18th century. The hasp is absent and the hinges may be replacements. A block has wisely been applied to the back to support the lid in a raised position. Original untouched dry surface.
