Mel Hankla

This rifle was made during the winter of 1996/97. It closely follows the lines of a Hershel House rifle, that Joe Mills has deer hunted with for many years. The swamped barrel by Getz, is .58 caliber, one turn in 48 inches and 31 inches long. The lock is an altered Chambers early Ketland and I hand forged the trigger and all the iron mounts. The toeplate of the rifle is a rib-bone from a donkey and the cheek inlay is from it's jaw-bone. Following the symbolism from Judges 15:16 Then Sampson said, "with the jaw-bone of a donkey..."

Charles Shepherd from Owensboro, Kentucky was offered this rifle or a brand new 4 wheeler for his high-school graduation present...and he chose this rifle. It a great rifle for deer hunting and one of my favorites.
