Contemporary Makers Portraits: Ken Guy

I started building rifles a little of 10 years ago.  Like many out there my first rifle was kit Hawken.  I built that kit and thought I was just like Jeremiah Johnson.  Ha ha ha.  When I decided to build my first custom rifle I was fortunate enough to meet an accomplished gun builder named Keith Lisle.  Keith Lisle mentored me along and taught me to build a good solid and reliable rifle.  We are still friends to this day.  It didn’t take long for me to realize my real passion was building TN rifles.  The person that has influenced me the most with the TN rifles is Steve Bookout.  I completing a formal apprenticeship program under Steve where I learned to make triggers, forge hardware, and even rifle barrels.  He’s a great teacher and good friend.  Along with my passion for building Appalachia Mountain rifles I also try to give back to the BP community.  I hope my website reflects that.  I don’t try to copy any one builder but rather to capture the look and feel of the TN builders by using the same techniques they used.

More photos of the rifle Ken is holding can be seen here.
