Powder Horn by Roy Howman

This horn was inspired by the Rebben Smith Horn. Some items found on other period horns were also added. The horn is a large French and Indian war style horn with a graceful twist. The horn measures 17 3/4" around the outside curve. The base has a double lobe for strap attachment. The base and spout plug are white pine and were finished with the traditional aquafortis and linseed oil finish.

Powder Horn by Roy Howman for Brian Laster

This is a horn made for Brian Laster of Tennessee. Brian asked me to create a horn to commemorate Henry Timberlake's 1760's expeditions into the "Over the Mountain" Cherokee settlements in what is now Tennessee. He wanted to show something about the Cherokee chiefs that traveled to London with Timberlake to Meet King George. I chose to feature an engraving done in London of Chief Austenaco, principal Chief of the Cherokee nation at that time. I also featured Henry Timberlake's Map of the Cherokee settlements. This map is considered to be a very accurate map of the Cherokee settlements considering what Timberlake had to work with. Modern Archaeologists have used his map to find and excavate many of the original Cherokee villages.

Powder Horn for Eric Lang

The horn it's self is one I picked up for myself a long time back and used it until I picked up a different one. I then passed it on to my son.

I decided I wanted to do something special for him so I asked a friend of mine, "Roy Howman" if he would do some art work on the horn for me. He agreed to so we got together and came up with this.

The marker of the horn is unknown, the art work was done by Roy who is a CLA member and as you can see does excellent work. More of Roy can be seen on his web site, Roy Howman.
