ELIZABETH ASHLEE KNIFE FOR JEREMIAH “JAKE” BROWNING ~ NOVEMBER 7, 2024 AD

 

As part of a grandfather’s continuing tradition to his grandson, Jeremiah David Browning - this is the 15th handmade knife made by friends for his birthday. This year’s outstanding knife was made by talented knife maker, Elizabeth Ashlee, of Mount Vernon, KY. Jeremiah received this knife for his 24th birthday, November 7, 2024.

Elizabeth created a handsome knife with a blade hand forged from 1084 steel, with a deer leg bone handle, and a mild steel end cap with bolster. Continuing in the tradition since the first knife was made by Ian Pratt in 2010, two hearts are stamped into the blade, engraved in the blade cap is Jeremiah’s birthday – Nov. 7, 

And HDW and JDB is engraved as well. Elizabeth's touch mark is also stamped in the blade.

The handsome sheath was made by Shelly Gier. 

This is the 15th knife made for the continuing tradition from a grandfather to a fine grandson. MAX SOAPER KNIFE FOR JEREMIAH “JAKE” BROWNING BIRTHDAY~ NOVEMBER 7, 2022 AD

 

Carrying on a Tradition.

As part of a grandfather’s continuing tradition to his grandson, Jeremiah David Browning - this is the 13th handmade knife made by friends for his birthday. This year’s outstanding knife was made by talented knife maker, Max Soaper, Henderson, Kentucky. Jeremiah received this knife for his 22nd birthday, November 7, 2022.

Max created a handsome knife with a hand forged blade with a curly maple handle with a poured pewter bolster. 

In Max’s words about his creation: 
“It is loosely based on several Georgian Confederate knives in a private collection. The blade steel is a high carbon spring steel with a medium temper for strength. The guard is mild steel and the handle is Osage Orange. It came from a huge branch off an ancient Osage tree located on my homestead. This particular tree was cored over 40 years ago and at that time was over 600 years old. It saw the development of Kentucky including the Civil War. I forged the blade in a coal forge crudely finishing it with a hammer & various files & a little sand paper. No power tools were involved in its making. The initials were burned into the handle as I'm not a gun stocker or engraver so my choices were limited.”

Continuing in the tradition since the first knife was made by Ian Pratt in 2010, two hearts are incorporated into the knife – this year, they are inletted in brass on the spine of the blade, flanking Jeremiah’s birthday – “Nov. 7, 2022”. And HDW and JDB is stamped into the wood handle.

JOSH WRIGHTSMAN KNIFE FOR JEREMIAH “JAKE” BROWNING ~ NOVEMBER 7, 2021 AD

 

As part of a grandfather’s continuing tradition to his grandson, Jeremiah David Browning - this is the 12th handmade knife made by friends for his birthday. This year’s outstanding knife was made by talented knife maker, Josh Wrightsman, Russiaville, Indiana. Jeremiah received this knife for his 21st birthday, November 7, 2021.

 

Josh created a handsome knife with a hand forged blade with a curly maple handle with a poured pewter bolster. Continuing in the tradition since the first knife was made by Ian Pratt in 2010, two hearts are incorporated into the knife – this year, they are inletted in brass on the spine of the blade, flanking Jeremiah’s birthday – “Nov. 7, 2021”. And HDW and JDB is engraved on both sides of the blade.

CHARLIE WALLINGFORD KNIFE FOR JEREMIAH “JAKE” BROWNING ~ NOVEMBER 7, 2020 AD

 

As part of a grandfather’s continuing tradition to his grandson, Jeremiah David Browning - this is the 11th handmade knife made by friends for his birthday. This year’s outstanding knife was made by noted knife maker, Charlie Wallingford of Union, Kentucky. Jeremiah received this knife for his 20th birthday, November 7, 2020.

 

Charlie created a handsome knife with a hand forged blade with a deer antler handle with a poured pewter bolster. Continuing in the tradition since the first knife was made by Ian Pratt in 2010, two hearts are incorporated into the knife – this year they are stamped in the blade, flanking Charlie’s touchmark. And “HDW to JDB Nov. 7, 2020” is engraved in the blade.  The end cap is engraved with nick and dot.  

 

This is the 11th knife made for the continuing tradition from a grandfather to a fine grandson. Kyle Willyard Knife for Jeremiah "Jake" Browning ~ November 7, 2018 AD

As part of a grandfather’s continuing tradition to his grandson, Jeremiah David Browning - this is the 9th handmade knife made by friends for his birthday. This year’s outstanding knife is by noted knife maker, Kyle Willyard from Bloomfield, Indiana. “Jake” received this knife for his 18th birthday, November 7, 2018.

Kyle created a handsome knife with an antler handle with “HDW * JDB Nov. 7, 2018” engraved around the silver bolster. Jeremiah’s initials are engraved on the silver end cap. Two hearts are stamped in the blade.  In the continuing tradition, including two hearts in some artistic manner become an artistic note among the artists making Jake’s knives. The blade is stamped with Kyle’s touch mark.

This is the 9th knife made for the continuing tradition from a grandfather to a fine grandson. Last year’s 2017 knife was made by Steve Auvenshine, the 2016 knife was made by Frank House, 2015 by Doug Delsemme, 2014 by Todd Daggett, the 2013 - Daniel Casey, 2012- Joe Seabolt, 2011- Glen Mock, and the first, the 2010 knife was made by Ian Pratt.

Steve Auvenshine Knife for Jeremiah "Jake" Browning ~ November 7, 2017 AD

As part of a grandfather’s continuing tradition to his grandson, Jeremiah David Browning - this is the eighth handmade knife made by friends for his birthday. This year’s outstanding knife is by noted knife maker, Steve Auvenshine, from Paris, Kentucky. “Jake” received this knife for his 17th birthday, November 7, 2017.

 Steve created a stunning clip point Bowie style knife which is accented with a silver panel inlaid in the figured walnut handle, engraved by Frank House with; “HDW * JDB Nov. 7, 2017”. Two hearts are stamped in the nickel silver guard which has become an artistic tradition among the artists making Jake’s knives. The blade, of 1095 carbon steel is stamped with Steve’s touch mark.

This is the eighth knife made in the continuing tradition from a grandfather to a fine grandson. Last year’s 2016 knife was made by Frank House, 2015 by Doug Delsemme, 2014 by Todd Daggett, the 2013 knife was made by Daniel Casey, the 2012 knife - Joe Seabolt, 2011 by Glen Mock, and the 2010 knife was made by Ian Pratt.
