American Revolutionary War Carved and Engraved Powder Horn
Dated 1780
Fully engraved with the date 1780/USA encompassed in a heart with the initials CS; the verse LET FIERY BOMBS & CHANY FRAGMENTS FLY / & HEATED BULLETS WHISTLE THRO THE SKY surrounded by flowering vines and two crowned figures holding an arching branch amongst various folk art imagery, such as a hunter shooting a stag and birds with the phrase GREEN FOR REST above a church, windmill, tree and crown engraved RURAL SEAT and an Indian battling a snake with the phrase DEATH AT LEAST. The recessed neck carved with double ring turnings and chip carved throat.
Length 14 in.
In overall very fine condition. Plug/stopper likely replaced.
