70 caliber, 46" part octagon barrel with twin ring turns. Convex lock with free standing pan. Full length stock with pin barrel fasteners. Brass mounts with intertwined sideplate. A beautiful Rev War period musket showing an even brown patina, excellent wood and mounts. Maker's mark on the barrel flat. Very likely one of the musket issued to George III "KING'S GERMAN LEGION".

If it's from the KGL it's much later than the Revolutionary War because that unit was not formed until 1803.
ReplyDeleteThis musket or one just like it, is in Neumanns book "Weapons of the American Revolution" Page 94.
ReplyDeleteIt appears in the first addition only. Neumann describes it as an early European musket circa 1700-1720.
