The red box design I took form #181. PORTABLE DESK, c.1750-1790 found on page 49 of George Neumann's book Early American Antique Country Furnishings. The box is about 12 inches high, 16 inches long and 9 inches deep. It is made of white pine and I made all the hardware except the lock which is an English import. I have made three of these but only one has the inside removable "desk" top and till. The one pictured was heavily aged at the request of the buyer. It includes knife marks from cutting tobacco on top and various ink stains and spills. M.B.
