Casework by Mike Torrente

Pictured are a Philadelphia Style Chest on Chest and a Charleston, S. C. influenced Chest on Chest.  They are very similar in proportion and style as both makers of this style furniture at the time were most likely influenced by English style and training.

Thomas Jefferson Tall Clock by Mike Torrente

(original made in Phila. c. 1812)

I noticed recently that you feathered some photos and text describing Colonial Period case furniture pieces. I am pleased that you connect early cabinetmaking with gun makers, because many of them, as you know, did both. I was a furniture maker for 27 years and specialized in Period style furniture, and I make BP guns for a hobby.  Now that I am retired, I just concentrate on making BP guns and studying the old ones.
