Small shot pouch, (5"h X 2 1/2" w)  

The pouch is small enough to carry in your shot bag or even in a pocket of ones weskit or jacket. Hold enough shot for five or six loads.  Made from 4/5 oz. veg. tanned leather, hand sewn with waxed linen thread, dyed and treated with bees wax.

Leather Belt Bag by Darrel Lang

Hand sewn leather belt bag, 5" w 6" d, made of vegetable tanned leather, dyed dark brown and treated with bee's wax.  The bag has we;ted seams and a 1" gusset. There is a small inside pocket. The bag will take up to a 2 1/2" belt.

A simple bag that is 7" x 9" made from 3-4 oz. veg tanned leather and the flap is two pieces of 2-3oz. veg tanned leather, sewn together back to back with the edge burnished. The customer asked for the sun to be tooled in on the flap. There is a small inside pocket and a patch knife added to the back.

This is a set that I have been working on for a gentlemen who wanted to try a smaller set up for shooting then what he was currently using. So working with his persona of a early ranger of the 1750's I made him up a smaller shot pouch and added a belt bag to go along with it.

He wanted to keep some of his accouterments in the same spot as in his old bag, like his ball starter and priming horn. So I made up a inside pocket that was deep enough and wide enough when split in the middle to hold his priming horn and on the other side flints and such. I also added a small pocket in front of the larger one to hold in place his ball starter.

I made up a small pouch to hold his cleaning jag and other small items used to clean his rifle. The shot bag is 7" wide and about 8 1/2" deep with a 1 1/2" wide gusset added. The belt bag is also made with a large inside pocket divided to hold patching on one side and balls on the other and plenty of room for other things. The belt bag is just under 7" wide and 6" deep with a button closer on the flap.

This bag was to be done in June but, one thing or another kept it from being finish. Now it's July and I am still waiting on a iron buckle to finish the bag, no buckle, so I took one of my bags and removed the buckle and finished the bag.

The bag is a simple bag no inside pocket no tooling on the flap, just a plain simple functional bag.

The bag is all hand sewn using waxed linen thread, made from 3oz.veg-tanned leather, dyed a dark brown and treated with 100% neets-foot oil and bee's wax. Bag size is 7" wide by 8" deep with a 1 1/2" gusset, all seams are welted.

The bag that I am currently using just wasn't deep enough, so using the same bag pattern I made it a little deeper and half inch wider, (7x8) and changed the style of the flap. I also played around with the strap. I had some left over piece of strapping left from other project, so I ended up with it being 1 1/4" wide and tapering it down to fit a one inch iron buckle. I then spliced in a one inch wide tongue to fit the buckle. It worked out well and I like the look. It's just a simple leather bag 3/4 oz. veg tanned leather, welted seam and hand sewn with waxed linen thread. The flap is made up of two pieces of leather 4 oz. backed with 2 oz. so not to be to thick, the edge is hand stitched then burnished to give it a nice finished look. A small amount of tooling added along with a button closer.

Darrel Lang has a blog, Leather from the Past, which showcases his work of leather shot bags and accouterments for the French and Indian War made in the colonies by the harness and saddle maker of the 18th century. All items are hand sewn using waxed linen thread, dyed, then treated with neatsfoot oil and bee's wax. The leather used is vegetable tanned cow hide 2-3 or 4-5 oz. weight. Other materials used are pig skin, period correct linens for the 18th century and iron or brass buckles.

This single shot bag was made from 2-3 oz. vegetable tanned leather, hand stitched with linen thread. The gentleman who ordered the bag requested a small inside pocket and some tooling on the flap. The bag is seven inches wide and six and half inches deep with an inch and half wide gusset added, all seams are welted. The strap is one inch wide with a forged buckle and a brass button closure.

Darrell Lang Haversack

This large leather bag is one that I made for myself about six or seven years a go to use as a large haversack. I carried what I need for a weekend trek or event a long with a blanket and tumpline. I still have it and use it on occasions. The bag is 13" wide by 12" deep and has a 2 1/4" gusset that runs the full size of the bag. Inside it is lined with pillow tic, and has a in side pocket that the full with of the bag and is 5" deep and held closed with a horn button. The flap covers about 3/4 of the bag and is held close with a large pewter button. The strap is 2" wide and is adjustable with a brass double D buckle. It's a rough looking bag.
