Wayne Elliott's Memorial Service

The Celebration of Life Service for Wayne will be Saturday, March 20, at 1:00 pm at 

First Baptist Church Blairsville

296 Blue Ridge Street

Blairsville, GA 

This sanctuary is large, and everyone can spread out for COVID concerns.  The program will have directions to the reception, which is only a few blocks from the church.

  
The reception will be at the Union Co. Community Center Ballroom, which is a gorgeous large room overlooking the gorgeous golf course and hills beyond.  Again, people can spread out.

Assembled French pistol c 1670/80

 

The lock is probably French or Dutch c.1660’s

Most of the parts are also very early except the side plate

Which is later. A bit of a mystery....

It’s not been chopped. This is the actual barrel length.

It follows the early French Calvary pistols which had longer barrels.

 

It must have been made up as a belt pistol. The patina is exquisite.

The only flaw was a  small wood chip just back of the muzzle on the lock side.

Eric von Aschwege restored it perfecto.

Length overall is 12”

Furniture by John Miller

I built this cherry highboy about 25 years ago along with some other pieces of early American style furniture.  I modeled it after an 18th century piece pictured in Wallace Nutting's Furniture Treasury.  His picture had no scale so I assumed that the smallest dimension of the cabriole legs was 1 inch.  Using that as the basis for my scale, I scaled and drew a plan from his photo and built it.   Years later, I saw that same highboy featured in Antiques Magazine along with actual dimensions which I compared to mine.  I was 1/2 inch off in height!  I made the legs from a timber that had been cut in the 1940s from the area now flooded by Lake Dardanelle.  Its got 244 hand cut dovetails and has served as my dresser since I built it.  The cherry has aged to a beautiful deep reddish brown.

2021 Lake Cumberland Show CANCELED

 

With great regret I have no other choice but to CANCEL the LAKE CUMBERLAND SHOW this weekend. The ice storm is to continue thru the day and into tomorrow in the Lake Cumberland area with a predicted high of only31 degrees. Roads are treacherous - some places impassable ! Major power outages are reported statewide.

PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD !!!
