Catawba River Valley Horn by Billy Griner

These are pics of a Catawba River Valley Horn that I completed recently.  The design of the horn is a type typically found in the Catawba River Valley area of North Carolina.  The horn is 14 3/4 inches around the long curve and 2 1/4 inches across the plug.  The spout is antler and the stepped plug is turned from gunstock quality ash.  Thanks to the friends who provided references and materials that allowed me to complete this project.

Battle of New Orleans Exhibit

The Louisiana National Guard Museums' historic Jackson Barracks location will host an exhibit entitled "Defending the Bayou - Louisiana Citizen Soldiers in the Battle of New Orleans" starting December 22nd, 2014.  This special exhibit is in honor of the Battle of New Orleans' Bicentennial and will run through May 22nd, 2015. The star of this exhibit will be an original John Jacob Sheetz Kentucky Rifle used at the Battle of New Orleans by militiaman William Ross, on loan to the Ansel M. Stroud Jr. Military History and Weapons Museum from Mr. and Mrs. Robert Melancon.  The museum, located on Jackson Barracks, positioned between New Orleans' French Quarter and the Chalmette Battlefield will also host several other time period artifacts from local collectors as part of the exhibit.  The exhibit is free and open to the public however entrance onto Jackson Barracks will require proof of identification at the gate.

Searles Bowie by Stash David

This knife is patterned after the Bowies commissioned by Rezin Bowie from Searles of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. It has a 9 inch blade and is 1 1/2 inches wide. It has a walnut handle with German silver mounts.
