Masters of Arms

‘Contemporary Longrifle Artists Eric von Aschwege and Sharek Gadd to be featured on new show produced by Discovery Channel.  Master of Arms will premier Friday November 2nd at 10pm on the Discovery Channel.  Participants must recreate a variety of historical weapons and compete in a challenge to win $10,000 and earn the title, “Master of Arms”’

Powder Horn by Sharek Gadd

1st horn that I made last summer. 

Bison, Maple, Hemp, Bone, Honey Locust, Copper, Black Bear, Sinew, Pine Resin, Bee Wax, Ochre, Soot.

Gourd Banjo by Sharek Gadd

I recently completed this flintlock inspired gourd banjo. 

The most troublesome part was learning to finger-weave, as I possess very little patience. I averaged an inch per hour and burned a rick of wood while sitting by the fireplace this past winter.

I just wanted to let you know that I look at your page every morning and enjoy each item that surfaces, whether antique or contemporary. 

I am not new to art or history, but am new to this facet history and its culture. 

I attended the Lake Cumberland show and displayed all of the items that I've produced within the past year. I met a great number of great people and viewed a great many pieces of utilitarian artwork.

Longrifle by Sharek A. Gadd

I am a recent member of the CLA. I was introduced to the association through Bill Burtt, and have had a wonderful time applying my background in art and anthropology to this medium. I've already met some wonderful people at the Lake Cumberland show as well as the Conner Longrifle show. 

I will be bring the rifle pictured above as well as it's associated accoutrements to The CLA show in August. 

The rifle is a 42" .50 caliber and is stocked in maple. The furnishings are brass, copper, silver, and pewter. I fabricated and finished everything minus the Chambers lock, Davis set trigger, GM barrel, and the inherited brass plate and trigger guard. I chose a homespun design based on the archeological lineage of the Shawnee and their origins/associations to the Fort Ancient, Adena/Hopewell, as well as the Great Lakes Copper Culture.
