The Love Runneth Over Set

All proceeds from the sale of this set will be donated to Love Runneth Over; a nonprofit foundation that provides financial support to Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Families at a time when there is no substitute for their presence, touch, and advocacy.

Love Runneth Over was created by Ezra and Carrie Firestone after their daughter Audra was born 3 months early at 1 pound 11 ounces via an emergency c-section. They realized that there was no greater comfort as her parents than knowing that they were able to spend every possible minute with her and give her the best quality of life in the short time she was with them.

I’ll never forget the time when my own children were born. Those hours at the hospital were easily the most intense, nerve-wracking, anxiety-ridden moments of my life. But I’ll also never forget the relief and gratitude  I felt when both of my children were born perfectly healthy with no complications. What if I hadn’t been so blessed and lucky? How does a person look after their day to day life in the face of that experience, and put everything else aside for however long it takes, from the mundane necessary life tasks to paying your mortgage? That’s why I think the mission of Love Runneth Over is so important and compassionate but also so practical.

All of the inlay work, silver work, relief carving, and hand engraving has been completed. Come see it at the 18th Century Artisan Show in Carlisle, PA next weekend. After the show I’ll begin all of the finish work. 

Completely hand forged wrought iron flintlock that Brad built while working for the Pennsylvania Museum Commission back in 1995. At that time he was the full time 18th Century Gunsmith at Landis Valley Museum in Lancaster, PA. This entire rifle was completely built by hand, including a 45” long hand forged wrought iron barrel.

The Jacob Dickert Rifle by Shane Emig

This rifle, just completed by Shane, is based on the earliest work of Jacob Dickert that would have a heavy Moravian influence, though not a copy of any existing rifle. It features a custom, 44" long Wrought Iron barrel that was developed just for this project. The lock on the rifle is a Davis Colonial American Flintlock that has been heavily modified to fit the build. Other than the lock and barrel, every other part on the rifle has been made by hand here at the shop using 18th Century tools and technology. The double set triggers, all springs, lock bolts and wood screws were all hand made. The butt plate, ram rod pipes and muzzle cap were hand swaged, fit and filed. The trigger guard and side plate blank were both hand cast here at the shop. The four piece patch box is made in the style of a known surviving patch box attributed to the early years of Jacob Dickert and all hand engraved and stippled. The rear sight is made from wrought iron and hand engraved while the front sight is made of wrought iron and coin silver. The muzzle has been punch decorated, and the breech area of the barrel has been inlaid with a silver cartouche to signify that the barrel is one of our custom wrought barrels.
