This rifle is possibly made for target shooting, as it is extremely heavy and has a heavy and thick-walled barrel with a long barrel tang extending halfway onto the top of the comb. The lockplate is stamped "REYNOLDS / & DENNISON / WARRANTED" in the center and features a roller frizzen and stamp-engraved scrollwork. The iron mounts are classic Tennessee and include a 2-piece oval-shaped patchbox. Iron trigger guard with curled return and double-set triggers. Small ovoid sideplate. Nosecap is pewter and has 3 piercings on each side. The walnut stock is of classic Tennessee form and has a high relief cheekpiece with 2 deep flutes. Complete with a later wooden ramrod.
CONDITION: Barrel retains a dark patina and spots of heavy pitting throughout. Lock is in its original flintlock configuration and retains a dark brown patina, functions well. All iron mounts retain a dark patina. Stock very good with its original surface and a few scattered marks from use. A very nice and original as found rifle.
From the Louie Parker Collection.
