“Cousin Willie” White

An apparent bench copy of an original, pictured in “Swords and Blades of the American Revolution” (Neumann, fig. 359.s, p. 181) and is there listed as a cutlass.  This 32” blade is long enough to reach the ground from the saddle.  The thumb ring and “D” Guard keep it secure in the users hand.  The blade and fuller are arrow straight side to side, the steel well tempered.  This is surely the weapon of a horseman, not a sailor!

He was a true Renaissance man of contemporary art who mastered gun building, knife making, leather work, trade silver and horn work before devoting himself to engraving.  The scroll work, gold and silver inlays on this axe testify to his mastery of that art.
