John Bivins, master carver, created this gun for a friend, Frank Burton, in 1966. This is a beautiful example of superior carving, wax casting and gunsmithing.
I have a gun frank burton made years a go. it haves his name engraved on it , its a 100cal shoots a 1inch ball 300 grain powder. Burton said its a hand h eld canon.
I was a college student(1966-1970), Guilford College, and visited Franks shop in the Cardinal Shoppning Center, Winston-Salem, NC. I watched Frank build my rifle, .40 cal. Douglas straight barrel, Hamm lock, and nice wood with incise carving. He showed me many tricks of the trade. I remembered he would teach building rifles at a class. You build the parts and the instructions were included(free I believe.) He gave it to me in the white and I did the sanding and staining. It still hangs on my wall. I had since built a few rifles and loved my time with Frank. Carl Leisinger
John was a genius. There are few today who can equal his craftsmanship.
