This came from the George Neuman Collection and still has his tag with description of this box. It is constructed of tarred linen nailed to a curved wood block. It has holes for 8 cartridges. The flap folds over the front and has a hole to close it using a brad on the front. There are leather loops on the side for a thin sling. A red fabric has been glued to the inside. While small is it quite interesting and shows some of the unique craftsmanship of the period.

I now own this cartridge box.
ReplyDeleteGeorge was of the opinion that the red cloth was a later addition to the box. Same era though.
